As the sun rises on the sun bleached desert mountains of Israel, the Dead Sea’s sparkling turquoise waters come alive with tourists. This is the lowest point on the face of the earth and it has a historic mystique about it that is hard to forget.

Today Dead Sea hotels offer guests an opportunity to bathe in its healing waters and reap the restorative health benefits sought after by so many. One of the Dead Sea’s best hotels, the Kibbutz Ein Gedi Resort Hotel is found on top of a hill with a dazzling view of the Dead Sea.

The hotel is surrounded by the beauty of an internationally recognized botanical garden containing hundreds of plant species made even spectacular with the knowledge that the site was completely barren before 1949.

With simple and comfortable rooms this Dead Sea hotel is known for its stylish decor that sets it apart from other kibbutzes. It’s a real treat for those wanting to learn more about this young nation with deep ancient roots. This warm and inviting hotel pleases you with adventures outside of the norm with the chance to experience sulphur springs, relaxing spa treatments, movies and magnificent evening barbeques.

Like all decent Dead Sea hotels, the Ein Geidi Resort has a full service spa and mineral mud baths to have you feeling and looking your best in no time. An on-site tennis court is available as well as many other activities, such as exploring the region’s natural wild life and scenic beauty. The indoor and outdoor pools are a nice change to the heavily salted sea if you enjoy a swim. Swimming in the sea can be difficult because of the high salt content that also makes it a therapeutically healing place.

With such a beautiful backdrop and lovely setting to enjoy the Dead Sea region previous guests have raved about the welcoming atmosphere. Some, however, believe that the price of the Ein Gedi Resort is too high but the value of a gaining a firsthand perspective on creating life in one of the harshest environments in the world is worth it to many. Firsthand experience in the first of the Dead Sea hotels that transformed the region is priceless.

Prices aren’t cheap, we’ve seen it advertised for $290 per room, half board, but as always, shop around!

The Dead Sea is famous for its minimalistic beauty and therapeutic waters and at the lowest point on the earth it possesses some amazingly unique properties. Those interested in its healing therapies but traveling on a budget will enjoy their stay at the Masada Dead Sea Hostel. Perfect for those touring Israel and trying to pack in as much fun as possible.

The Masada Guest House and Youth Hostel is just as unique as it surroundings, with each room featuring its own private bathroom, television, and mini-fridge. Very simple but up to date décor with fresh open spaces and terraces allowing you to enjoy the expansive desert and turquoise sparkling jewel, the Dead Sea.

Many other Dead Sea hotels offer luxurious accommodation, but at a significant cost. The Masada Hostel has a comfortable and personable feel, assuring guests arrive and stay in comfort for an affordable price.

The hostel is in a wonderful location for hikers and those anxious to explore the natural beauty of the Dead Sea.

Here are five of the very best Dead Sea hotels, at least according to TripAdvisor.com, the top travel review site with over 45 million traveller reviews. We’re inclined to agree with their rankings, it has to be said, though there is certainly room for a Top 10!

As you can see, the list doesn’t necessarily include the most luxurious hotels in the Dead Sea, but those most highly rated. Which is a great way to find a great hotel, right?

The Top 5 ranked hotels in the Dead Sea, as of May 2011, are:

Lot Spa Hotel on the Dead Sea, Ein Bokek

Isrotel Dead Sea Hotel and Spa, Ein Bokek

The Masada Hostel, Ein Bokek

Royal Rimonim Dead Sea, Ein Bokek

Lot Spa Hotel on the Dead Sea
This 4 star hotel is deservedly ranked number one of all the Dead Sea hotels. The Lot Spa hotel has its own strip of beach, its own unique spa service and top quality attention to guests. It might look a little aged from the outside, but what can we say, never judge a book by its cover!
Rates: Hunt around on the web or for a good travel agent, you may well be able to get a room for around $170.

Another 4 star hotel that has a private beach just a short walk across the road from the hotel. Most recommend the service highly (with the odd complaint), and it seems to be a great spot for a relaxing, romantic vacation. Common feedback is “Good food, nice rooms, and very clean” plus great reviews on their spa!
Rates: Seem to start from $210, and can peak at $400+, but it’s worth hunting around online for deals.

The Masada Hostel
This is the place to rest your head if you intend on trekking up to the top of Masada at sunrise. Easy to get to thanks to local bus routes, just watch out for the school groups! Great food, though you have to pay extra for dinner. There’s a swimming pool too (in season)! Don’t forget, this is a hostel, not a hotel…
Rates: Seem to be $35+ for a dorm bed and around $100 for a double room. Prices include a good, hearty breakfast.

Royal Rimonim Dead Sea
Quite possibly ther most attractive of all Dead Sea hotels, this place has apparently improved service a lot recently and guests seem very satisfied with great food, a spa and great, spacious rooms on offer. The staff seem to have taken complaints seriously over recent years and things are MUCH better. There are 420 rooms, each with a private balcony.
Rates: Seem to be in the $190-$300 range.

Spa Club Hotel
Surprisingly, this hotel has no balconies facing the Dead Sea, but it more than makes up for it with beautiful spa facilities. Perhaps they assume you’re going to be spending more time in the spa rather than your room! Kids under 16 not allowed. See our full review here.
Rates: A little more expensive, with rates between $210-$370.

For centuries people have flocked to the Dead Sea in search of the healing and curative properties of its heavily salted waters. An ever-growing range of Dead Sea hotels have sought to serve the increasing number of tourists in search of restoration and increased vigor, not least the popular Lot Spa Hotel.

The Lot Spa Hotel, recently ranked as the best hotel in the Dead Sea according to travel website Trip Advisor, is one of the few Dead Sea hotels that has a private beach. There’s easy access to the gazebo shaded peninsula beach that gives the opportunity to float in the midst of the sea at leisure.

The hotel also features a full sized swimming pool surrounded by beautiful shaded gardens, a children’s pool and play area. For those that are there to relax and be pampered, this Dead Sea hotel’s spa and health club are a state of the art experience and you can indulge in Dead Sea beauty treatments and deep tissue massages that literally melt tension away.

After a full day of fun in the Israel sun, you’ll enjoy the rich flavors of an international buffet in the Lot Spa Hotel Restaurant. Meals are served buffet style so you can have a taste of everything that this hotel has to offer. Afterwards, why not unwind in one of the two full service bars while you enjoy music and scenic views of the moon shimmering on the ripples of the Dead Sea. During the day, the Desperado bar serves light lunches and refreshing ice cream.

Most Dead Sea hotels have splendid views of the sea or mountains and balconies allow for stargazing and fabulous photos, so too does the Lot Spa Hotel.

The rooms at the Lot Spa Hotel range in size from single to family rooms so that no matter how many are in your party everyone will be comfortable. Each room is equipped with air conditioning, wireless internet, satellite television, and more to make your stay as comfortable as possible.

Previous guests rave about the Lot Spa Hotel and its attentive service. It may be one of the smaller Dead Sea hotels but the staff is there to make sure every guest receives the attention they require. Some of the facilities become a bit overcrowded in high season but the lavish Lot Spa Hotel offers hospitality that cannot be measured.

Rates: The Lot Spa Hotel is actually one of the better value hotels in the Dead Sea. Just have a search online for the best deal possible, as rooms are available for around $170.

“The hotel was one of the nicer ones in the area, with free parking, and right across the street, like a 2 min walk at most was the dead sea beach. The room was very clean, comfy pillows and bed, with views of the pool and the Dead Sea.” Dwight, USA

“I’ll say very well organised. Not really a 5*, more like a 4*, but modern and clean, roomy and comfortable. The meals were fresh and very varied. Salad bars vrey well stacked and fresh. The pools were nice size and clean. Beach was across the street, a 2 min walk” Nicole, Bucharest

“Fantastic value, helpful staff. We have been many times and always found it to be excellent value. The beach has been cleaned and extended, with more chaise lounges and umbrellas. The food was abundant you want and delicious, with many many choices at each meal.” Funnyface, Jerusalem

“Leonardo (Golden Tulip) is a winner as it has a direct access to a wonderful private beach. We stayed for three nights, had a wonderfully relaxing time, and were encouraged by the front desk to stay at the beach and the pool as long as we wanted even after we had checked out.” Eva, Chicago
